Lithography Printmaking
The Process for Hand-Pulled Prints

Lithography was invented for the need to carry out numerous copies of a source image, of good quality and at a lower cost. The Impressionist painter Manet was the first famous artist who proved himself in this new technique with his lithographic art-work "Le Ballon", in 1862. Daumier and many others soon followed. Tolouse Lautrec, with his advertising wall-papers for the Moulin Rouge, gave this new artistical way a vast popularity.

From then on, the contribution of lithography graphic art has been huge, as it is proved by the interest of almost every modern artist.

Few people know what a lithograph is, the execution method and the secrets for a good work.

We'll follow Master printmaker, Charles Criner, as he prepares Chris Renz's stone for the "print pulling" stage.
